Understanding Domain Transfer

Domain transfer refers to changing the ownership of a domain name from one domain registrar to another. It allows you to switch domain management services while retaining the same domain name. Here’s how it works:

Unlock Your Domain:
Log in to your current domain registrar’s account.
Find the domain you want to transfer and ensure it’s unlocked. If it’s locked, unlock it.
The domain lock prevents unauthorized transfers.
Get an Authorization Code (EPP Code):
Request an authorization code (also known as an EPP code or transfer code) from your current registrar.
This code proves your ownership and allows the new registrar to initiate the transfer.
Start the Transfer with the New Registrar:
Sign up with CyberWeb Hosting Solutions where you want to transfer your domain.

During the registration process, choose the option to transfer an existing domain.
Enter the domain name and the authorization code.
Verify the Transfer:
You’ll receive an email from the new registrar with instructions.
Confirm the transfer by following the provided steps.
Keep an eye on your email for any additional verification requests.
Wait for the Transfer to Complete:
The transfer process usually takes a few days to a week.
Both registrars communicate behind the scenes to ensure a smooth transition.
During this time, your website and email services remain unaffected.
Confirm the Transfer:
Once the transfer is complete, verify that everything is working as expected.
Check your website, email, and other related services.

Complete the following steps with your current registrar:
  • Unlock the domain name.
  • Get an Authorization Code (also known as EPP code or transfer key)
  • Verify administrator’s contact information is correct.
  • This is important because emails regarding the transfer process will be sent to the administrator’s email address. (Except for .au domains, where all transfer information is sent to the registrant contact’s email.)
  • Cancel Protected Registration or Private Registration if you have it.

 Domain Forwarding and Masking:

Domain Forwarding: This feature allows you to direct any domain name you own to a specific website. When someone enters that domain name into their browser, they are automatically taken to your designated website. It’s like setting up a signpost that guides visitors to the right place.
Masking: With domain masking, you can maintain your original domain name in the browser address bar even when visitors are viewing content from a different website. This is useful when you want to keep your branding consistent or hide the actual destination URL.
Domain Locking:
Preventing Transfers: Domain locking ensures that accidental or unauthorized transfers of domain ownership don’t occur. When a domain is locked, it cannot be transferred to another registrar without your explicit permission. It adds an extra layer of security to your domain.
Total DNS Control:
Nameservers and DNS Records: You can manage your domain’s nameserver (DNS) records. These records determine how your domain connects to services like email, FTP, sub-domains, and your website. Adjusting DNS settings allows you to control where your domain points.
Single Control Panel: Having all these controls accessible from a single control panel simplifies management and reduces the need to navigate multiple interfaces.
Change of Registration:
Reassigning Ownership: Sometimes you might need to transfer domain ownership to another person or entity. The “Change of Registration” feature allows you to do this, although there may be a fee involved.
Updating Contacts: You can also modify the contact information associated with your domain. For example, if your email address changes, you can update it here.
Status Alerts:
Monitoring Your Domain: Stay informed about your domain’s status. If there are any changes (such as expiration dates, DNS updates, or suspicious activity), you’ll receive alerts promptly. This helps you keep track of your domain’s health and security.
